Away with the Average {Free Personal Branding E-Book}

Do you want to get ahead of the pack?

The secret is in online entrepreneurship and building relationships with others. The two go together.

I discovered it early in life. I lived in Poland until the age of 24. I moved to New York 10 years ago, where I worked as a construction worker, scaffold operator, waiter, office manager, digital marketer, trainer, professional speaker, professor, and executive. In that order.

Online entrepreneurship enabled me to create opportunities that I would not have had otherwise.

I love to help others achieve success.

Published on Medium, a better place to read and write, Away with the Average: How Online Entrepreneurship Created Unique Advantage for Job Seekers, is a collaborative free e-book about personal branding. Constantly evolving, its content is live. Every sentence is a tweet or a conversation.

I will respond to every comment, question or tweet. Would love to hear your feedback!

Away with the average

The average is over

The Internet changed the world in unprecedented ways. A membership in a student association and two Summer internships used to be enough for college students to find work after graduation. Today, that’s average.

A one-page resume is no longer enough to get an interview either. Today recruiters search your name in Google to learn more about you. That is your zero moment of truth and…

Invisibility is a fate much worse than failure.

In order to stand out in the pile of job applications that recruiters receive every day, you need to find your extra…..

What others say about Away from Average

Away with the Average offers some great tips on how to bury the blah, and bring the BOOM. Average IS boring and looked over, and this is a great reminder (and even wake up call for some). Finding your extra is a great way to do good for yourself, your career and your community. - Anna Cushman van Tonder, Blogger at AnnaDishes.com

One of the best things about Matthew’s book is that you don’t need to have a fancy degree in MBA to understand the content. He has put forth an actionable guide, in plain English, based on his personal career experiences for anyone to follow.  In today’s digital clutter, Matthew has made sure to deliver a jargon-less, high value guide to the youth in need. - Neeraj Thakur, Founder of Appska.com

This is not a book for theory or academic research. Rather, Prof. Capala gives a practical solution for regular people. This e-book is designed for the reader to walk through designing and implementing their own brand. The value of the book is in doing the work necessary to implement the step-by-step process of re-branding yourself. - Khondaker Haque, Analytics Consultant at iDigerati

Capala gives great practical advice on building your personal brand presence online and networking successfully through these channels. It is true – being average just doesn’t cut it anymore and anyone reading ‘Away with the Average’ will greatly benefitted from it and ‘finding their extra’!! - Lisha Klopper, Graduating Masters Candidate (Integrated Marketing), NYU

Away with the Average is a fantastic ebook that any career focused individual could benefit from. Matt’a advice is very logical and I know from experience that it works. Matt shows you how developing your personal brand and entrepreneurial spirit can lead to great success in your career, but more importantly that it can add accomplishment and fulfillment to your life. – Lavall Chichester, Founder of SpreadLove.org

I really enjoyed reading Away with the Average as it is applicable to anyone– wether just starting out, or on a quest to reinvent your brand or yourself. The advice, insights and personal experience shared are helpful, interesting and moreover, effective. I appreciate and plan to implement the actionable tips for optimizing personal branding and getting the extra out there.

Average IS boring and looked over, and this is a great reminder (and even wake up call for some). You have to have extra and give extra to get extra. It’s not just going to happen. Finding your extra is a great way to do good for yourself, your career and your community.

There are some great tips here on how to bury the blah, and bring the BOOM.

    Thanks for sharing!

When I mention branding to most solo-entrepreneurs or prospective job seekers, their eyes glaze over, generally followed with some comment about branding being for the big guys, like Apple or BMW.

The lesson that Professor Matthew Capala, the author of Away with the average, teaches is that not only the big corporate houses, but also employees and prospective job seekers have a brand; and everyone should nurture his/her brand. Capitalizing the power of social media, one can stay ahead of his/her competition and position him/her far above the average.

This is not a book for theory or academic research. Rather, Professor Capala gives a practical solution for regular people. This book is designed for the reader to walk through designing and implementing their own brand. The value of the book is in doing the work necessary to implement the step-by-step process of re-branding yourself.

This book is valuable for anyone who is not currently getting the results they want. The book is well written and easy to read. The concepts are clearly explained and there are examples to illustrate the concepts in action.

An excellent resource, a real how to guide to help you create the unique positioning of you that will outperform your competition.
